Background
Scott Naismith is one of Scotland’s most exciting young artists.
In May 1978 Scott was born in South Lanarkshire. From an early age he showed a great talent for painting. With the ambition to become an artist, Scott studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. In June 2000 he left with a BDes in Illustration and printmaking.
Since graduating Scott has been a full time artist. Much of his time is spent traveling around the country looking for inspiration for another take on the Scottish landscape. The many lochs, glens and isles of the West coast are amongst his favourite subject matter for his vibrant and atmospheric oils. Since 2003 Scott has also been a regular part time lecturer at the Creative Arts Department of Reid Kerr College, Paisley.
Scott uses vivid colours in a vigorous application to represent the fast changing light conditions of the West coast of Scotland. Colour use often becomes an entirely emotional response to the subject while tone can remain representational.
The love he has for his native Scottish countryside is portayed in his work through an ebullient energy with which he handles the colour with pallette knife and brush.
Scott’s artwork hangs in private collections across the UK, Europe, USA, Australia and Asia

Scott's 1st year at the Glasgow Art Fair proved to be an enormous success when the Gallery representing his work repeatedly sold out on 3 days running. The Glasgow based gallery, Annan Art had to contact Scott to provide new studio work in order to supply the demand shown for his work at Scotland's national Art Fair. It was also a debut year for Annan Art at the fair and proved a great platform for them to show off the fantastic range of artists they represent.
